Ancient China
In Ancient China, jade was mostly used for religious purposes, the other uses were necklaces, cups, swords, ect. Stones with five standards may be called jade, which include tough quality, gentle luster, splendid color, dense and transparent tissue as well as melodious sound. With all of the five standards, hornblende, serpentine, turquoise, malachite, agate, crystal, amber and beryl are considered to be jade in Chinese culture. Inventors in ancient china also presented advanced technology that helped certain jobs, like how the chinese invention of the plow helped farming. Chinese sailors were not thought to be skilled, but their boats were very advanced compared to the european ships. Their sails were made of bamboo with fabric between, and could catch wind, even with a hole in it. Their sails could also be pulled down, like a blind so they would not have to risk their lives in storms. The Europeans also copied the idea of the rudder and the compass, invented by the Chinese.
